چکیده

Background: Present study, aimed to assess effect of organic and inorganic crop mulching on physical, physiological biochemical quality fresh cowpea beans. Methods: Cowpea (cv. Kashi Kanchan bush-type) was grown during two consecutive seasons from April 2018 July 2019 under four different treatments. Mulching treatments included no mulch; wheat straw mulch (organic mulch); black silver mulch. Black mulches were made 25 microns LDPE sheet. as per standard agronomic practices postharvest parameters beans evaluated.Result: Results indicated that bean length (28.7cm) highest whereas thickness (9.10mm), width (9.29mm) 100 weight (1094.5g) Likewise, protein content (28.63%), total phenolic (17.0µg GAE/100g) antioxidant activity (46.84µmol trolox equiv./100g) found in produced Overall results demonstrated could be used for enhancing the antioxidants, beans.

Recent advances in cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L

After decades of research on cowpea, significant amount of omics datasets are available and useful in understanding the genetic relationship between Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata and other species belonging to the same genus as well as its genetic variation. Besides, the development of genetic map allowed the chromosome localization of molecular markers associated with disease resistance, ...

Prioritising in situ conservation of crop resources: A case study of African cowpea (Vigna unguiculata)

Conserving crop wild relatives (CWR) is critical for maintaining food security. However, CWR-focused conservation plans are lacking, and are often based on the entire genus, even though only a few taxa are useful for crop improvement. We used taxonomic and geographic prioritisation to identify the best locations for in situ conservation of the most important (priority) CWR, using African cowpea...

Isolation and Characterization of Four Isoinhibitors from Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) Seeds

Four isoinhibitors of trypsin have been isolated from the cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp., in a highly purified state, as indicated by Urea-SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, equilibrium chromatography, and amino acid analysis. The amino acid composition was characterized by the absence of free -SH groups, high half-cysteine, and the absence of tryptophan and methionine in isoinhibito...

Toxic effects of Pb2+ on growth of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata).

A concentration as low as 1 microM lead (Pb) is highly toxic to plants, but previous studies have typically related plant growth to the total amount of Pb added to a solution. In the present experiment, the relative fresh mass of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) was reduced by 10% at a Pb2+ activity of 0.2 microM for the shoots and at a Pb2+ activity of 0.06 microM for the roots. The primary site of ...
